The value of f1.4

I attended a Networking training event this afternoon.  It took place in a typical hotel conference space, complete with the wonderfully awful lighting and blah decor. Fortunately I anticipated the conditions and brought along my 50mm f1.4 Nikkor prime. Quite often I see the argument being made that you don’t need large aperture lenses anymore… Continue Reading

What’s on my nightstand?

It is a constant process to stay educated I just finished up a couple of one-on-one lessons.  Both students made the comment about there being “a lot” to learn.  I believe photography has such a wide appeal because it has a lot to offer.  It can get very technical, which many people (me included) find… Continue Reading

Quilts

Today we had a change of pace in the studio.  A good friend of mine from Michigan State asked to borrow the studio to photograph some quilts.  I had fun shooting some detail shots while he concentrated on the big picture. Continue Reading

The benefit of size

Very bright and a smart choice

No, I’m not talking about me, although the description does fit, I’m talking about this new Rayovac LED flashlight that I bought today.  I was at Batteries Plus today to get some replacement batteries for a couple of calculators when I decided to check out the flashlights.  Now, I’m a firm believer that you can’t… Continue Reading
