Just playing around

Today’s photo is simply a shot of a glass bowl I bought about 15 years ago at the Ariana Gallery in Royal Oak, MI. It is made of hundreds of pieces of glass cut and stacked. I hope you enjoy the shot as much as I enjoy the bowl. Continue Reading

It isn’t always about art

Today we celebrated a birthday and I thought it would be a good time to mention and show that sometimes photography is about documenting a moment.  I didn’t want to micro manage the scene, but rather I was trying to capture a slice of life.  We were in the middle of breakfast when my son… Continue Reading

“For A Price I’ll Shoot Your Relatives”

I have to say that one of the best ideas I have ever had was my website name GetShotByBob.com and the accompanying slogan “For A Price I’ll Shoot Your Relatives!” The website and the slogan resonate with people, and it serves to let people know what kind of experience they can expect when they choose… Continue Reading

Attention to detail counts

I sit and write this on my Apple computer, enjoying the visual experience that the system delivers.  Sure windoze machines are typically cheaper, but they lack the beautiful clean lines that make a Mac a design icon.  This isn’t intended to be a Mac vs. Windows discussion, rather it is a simple observation that beautiful… Continue Reading

New Wall Art in the Studio

We received a very large shipment of Canvas Gallery Wraps today.  I have been planning for several new displays around the studio to highlight various ways to display multiple images.  When the holiday rush subsided I was able to spend a couple of days designing some new looks. Often times clients are interested in displaying… Continue Reading

Lego has always been one of my favorite toys and in this macro shot of my Lego Formula… Continue Reading

Stop and take a moment

My mom came by today to drop off a book.  She had just been at her hair salon getting the full treatment.  While she and Juliann (my wife) chatted about one thing and another I quickly set up my studio lights.  As mom was headed for the door I announced that she was to be… Continue Reading

New Backdrop

Went shopping yesterday and picked up a new backdrop.  It is a tie-dye velourish thing.  Possibly an acquired taste, but I like it. For this shot I used one light to camera left with no reflector.  I wanted to draw attention to the face and let the back of Nick’s head go into darkness. Continue Reading

Winter Sunset

A Winter Sunset feels cold just to look at it.  The bare trees and the clear sky tell all of us that live in Northern climates that the cold weather is here.  I shot this hand held from my front porch.  I wasn’t prepared to bundle up and face the cold for a prolonged period… Continue Reading
