I held a studio lighting workshop today. We started out with a basic explanation of equipment from light stands to lights and modifiers. What I bought, why I bought it, and would I buy it again. Then we setup some lights and started experimenting with one then two then three light setups. Using a simple reflector and one light can yield some very different results. The shot above is the result of using one light to create a moody portrait.
Great workshop! You paced it well and your approach of working from one light and building up really helped to reinforce the effect of light on your subject.
Thanks for the feedback. I really enjoyed teaching it. It is very fun for me to watch people have that aha moment when they suddenly understand how to control the light and make it do what they want.
