Practicing in the studio with Kyle
More often than not the trick with studio lighting is getting it just where you want it, without having it spill all over. This image was light with a single strip box fitted with a grid to channel the light in a very confined pattern. What makes it powerful is the tremendous lack of light throughout most of the image, contrasted by the sharp light slicing across Kyle’s profile and shoulder.
If you want a truly memorable portrait, try something dramatic.
